Mrs. Janie H. Owens, 86, of Moulton died June 17, 2015 in a tragic accident. 

Janie (Jake) was the second oldest child born to the late Hurbert & Bulah Hurley in Lawrence County on December 6, 1928.  She made her transformation on June 17, 2015.  Janie was a graduate of Moulton High School, she worked for many years as a nurse's assistant at the Moulton Health Care Center and the Lawrence County Health Department.  She retired from the Health Department and later began to work at the Lawrence County Mental Health Center as a monitor for Summer Day Treatment.

She was a long time member of Freeman Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of various ministries.  Janie was a member of Orba Chapter OES #148 and a charter member of the Moulton Civic & Social Club.  She was a diligent worker on every organization she served on.

Janie married Oliver Owens March 5, 1950.  To this union 4 children were born.  Her husband Oliver, Oldest son Lamarce (Boochie) and great grandson Robert Pettigrew II preceded her in death, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Walker and Nellie Hurley; two brothers, Clifton Hurley and Felton Hurley.

She leaves to cherish her memory 3 children, Delanie (Paul) Square of Huntsville, AL, Janetia Owens of Moulton, AL, David (Patrice) Owens of Decatur, AL; 8 grandchildren, Andre' Owens, Tomiko Pettigrew, LaTasha Owens, Aquita Wherry, Delicia Fuqua, Maurice Square, Anthony Owens and Ashaya Owens; 5 step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, 2 sisters; Glennice H. Jackson, Moulton, AL and Daisy Pride, Sheffield, AL, one brother-in law; Blanton (Ruth) Owens, Milwaukee, WI,  4 sisters-in-law, Eliza Mae Crittenden, Huntsville, AL, Carnell Johnson, Erma (Jim) Donald and Emma Ruth Owens of Moulton, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
