Willard Norton, 83, of Town Creek passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024. Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation, Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Jackson Memory Funeral Home, directly followed by the funeral service with Bro. Victor Brackin officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Willard was born on July 11, 1940. He married Dorothy Liles on May 7, 1960. He loved sports, especially the Braves, Alabama, and anything involving the grandkids. He was a proud member of the Laborers Local 366. He worked many years in construction and maintenance and retired from Reynolds. He also spent a lot of time in the fields helping family. Upon retiring, he became known as the local “watermelon man”. He took pride in his patch and what came from it. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and tending to his grass.
He loved family time and spoiling his great grand kids with unlimited ice-cream cones. He was an active and faithful member of church where he ran the sound system. He was a soft spoken but social man, and never met a stranger. When he spoke, you listened. He frequented his favorite places every day, Gibsons (Shell), Buds and Jacks. His favorite place to eat was Walton’s for some fried catfish.
Survivors include, wife of 64 years Dorothy Liles Norton. Three children, Jackie Norton (Ramona), Tammie Tate (Tim), and Marty Norton. Nine grandchildren, Brittany, Whitney, Jarin, Abbie, Rachel, Andrew, Sydni, Evan and Reagan. Thirteen great-grandchildren and one sister Alice Chambers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bertha Norton. Two brothers, Raymond Norton and Franklin Norton. Three sisters, Louise Paseuir, Doris Parker, and Stella Norton.
Pallbearers are Jarin Norton, Andrew Tate, Evan Norton, Ben Moultrie, James Bennett, Elliot Carpenter, and Barry Norton.
Honorary Pallbearers are Rufus Staggs, Jerry Dale Tidwell, Arnold Ridgeway, Jack Williams, Richard Allen, the late Bryce Tidwell, the late Carlton Brackin, , the late Webb Childress, .
