Eugenia Steward Obituary

Eugenia "Gina" Steward, 55, of Town Creek died January 6, 2022. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 14, 2022 at Ebenezer Cemetery in Town creek

                      Obituary

               Mrs. Eugenia Georgette Steward

                             Affectionally Known as Gina

Mrs. Gina Steward was born August 8, 1966, in Hamilton County, Tennessee to Eurma Jean Stanley Garner and George Edward Garner. She departed this life and gained her angel wings on January 6, 2022, at home after a brief illness.

Gina married the love of her life, Roderick Steward on September 20, 1985. She was a loving and caring wife for 36 years. She loved her family and would go the extra mile to take care of them. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Gina accepted Christ at the age of 12 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek. She later moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Town Creek where her husband attended. There she became a dedicated usher and Sunday School Teacher.

Gina graduated from Hazlewood High School in 1984. She then attended Shoals Community College and graduated in 1990 with an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems. Gina loved children and had a desire to be a teacher. So, she decided to pursue a career in education. She attended Athens State University and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 2012. Gina continued her educational studies by attending West Alabama where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Special Education. She was employed for many years by Decatur Youth Services and later went on to work for Decatur City Schools. She was not only a teacher, but she was an advocate for all children.

Gina’s life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts exceeds the quantity of time she stayed here. She lived her life giving of herself to others and her legacy will live on in so many of us who have benefited from her warmth, kindness, concern, and love. Gina had a smile that would light up a room and she will be truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eurma Jean Stanley Garner and George Edward Garner. Her brother Spence Edward Garner, God parents Thomas Harris Sr., Peggy Harris, and a God Sister, Robin Harris.

Gina leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Roderick Steward of Town Creek, AL; Three Sons, Roderick Seth Steward of Decatur, AL; Rorrick Sabion Steward of Tuskegee, AL; Reddrick Stefon Steward of Troy, AL. One Grandson, Rylen Saint Steward of Decatur, AL; One Sister, Terri (Byron) Black of Decatur, AL; Three Brothers, Donald  (Kristena) Garner, Douglas (Crystal) Garner and Torrick Spangler all of Decatur, AL; A Mother-in-Law, Modean Steward of Town Creek, AL; Four Brother-in-Laws, Spencer (Chiitra) Steward, Derrick (Catretta) Steward, Torrence (Carla) Steward all of Town Creek, AL, and Gerald Stanley of Leighton, AL; One God Sister, Raven (Ramon) Edmonson of Athens, AL; One God Brother,ÂÂÂ Thomas Harris Jr. of Town Creek, AL; Three Special God Nieces, Peyton Harris, Tatum and Sydney Goode; Two Devoted Caregivers, Tracene Langham and Toshia Richardson.
