Deloris Pruitt Obituary

Deloris "Mot" Pruitt, 81, of Hillsboro died April 6, 2023. Public viewing will be held at Jackson Memory Funeral Home, Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, April 14, 2023, at Canaan M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Foster-Davis Cemetery.

Deloris Walker Pruitt, affectionally known as “Mot,” was born July 18, 1941, in Hillsboro, Alabama to the late LeAndrew and Hazella Walker. Deloris accepted Christ at an early age and united with David Temple "Word of Faith" Primitive Baptist Church of Hillsboro. Later in life she moved her membership to Canaan Missionary Baptist Church to worship with her family.

Mot graduated from Tennessee Valley High School in Hillsboro, Alabama. She earned both a typing certificate and bookkeeping certificate from Lawrence County Vocational Technical School. Mot was an extremely hard worker. She retired from General Motors Corporation after many years of service. She was a beloved employee who never met a stranger and maintained many lifelong friends.

Mot was a passionate and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her “boys.” She took great pride in spending time with her family. She was a master chef and a chauffeur. She did not hesitate to wash and iron clothes and perform any other tasks necessary. She was the “Head Cheerleader” for her great grandboys, Connor and Carson; at every game she could be found at the fence watching them play baseball. No matter how busy she was or how many projects of her own she was involved with, Mot was never too busy to shower her family with love and support.

Mott finished her course in life on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at her residence. Heaven gained a true Angel who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Calvin Lamon Walker, and her brother, Andrew James Jones.

Mot leaves a legacy of love to be shared by her two loving and caring sons, Calvin L. Walker of Decatur, Alabama and Velvis Priest of Dayton, Ohio; one devoted and affectionate grandson, Corey (Angela) Walker of Trinity, Alabama; two precious great-grandsons, Connor L. Walker and Carson L. Walker of Trinity, Alabama. She also leaves two god-daughters who loved her unconditionally, Joyce Bevels and Janice Bevels of Decatur, Alabama. Mott leaves an entire community of dedicated neighbors, friends, relatives and loved ones.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have longed for His appearing,

II Timothy 4: 7-8 (NIV)
