Billie T. Chappelle, 79, of Decatur, formerly of Hillsboro died January 3, 2022. Jackson Memory is assisting the Family.
Obituary
Ms. Billie T. Chappell was born May 20th, 1942, to the late Hadley and Allie Hillary Townsend. Ms. Chappell grew up in Decatur, Alabama. She attended Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with Minor in Psychology.
Billie became a renowned elementary school teacher. She was also one of the first African American women to be employed by Decatur City School System. She taught second grade at Woodmeade Elementary School in Decatur, Alabama for 32 years. She retired in 1999. During her retirement she tutored children, worked as a substitute teacher at Hartselle Head start, she also directed a daycare at Moulton Heights Church of Christ. But what she enjoyed most of all were her flowers, her beloved granddaughters, and great grandsons. Billie’s family, daughter Hillary (Chappell) and Ernest Ratliff, granddaughters Lydia (Chappell) and Kevin Williams (Ethan and Weston Williams), Janice Thomas (Javynn S. Thomas), along with other treasured family members, and beloved friends will miss her terribly.
