Coury Gene Scruggs was born in Morgan County, AL on December 15, 1989 to Mary Clark and Billy Scruggs. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek, Alabama.

Coury enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing video games, watching movies, cooking shows, sports, and loved to read the Word of God. It was no secret that Coury was an Alabama Crimson Tide Fan. He was excited to see his team win the 2018 College Football National Championship. Coury had a kind heart and would help anyone in need, if he could. Even in his last days he was still thinking of others and trying to make sure they were ok. He will be greatly missed among his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Mary Robinson Reed; grandfather, Paul Mason; and uncle, Miller Ovell Mason.

Coury leaves behind to cherish his loving memories: his mother, Mary (James) Clark of Athens, Alabama; father, Billy (Ruth) Scruggs of Decatur, Alabama; one brother, Tarando Washington of Huntsville, Alabama; grandmothers, Marvline Mason of North Courtland, Alabama and Flora Scruggs of Madison, Alabama; one devoted aunt, Carolyn (Steven) Langham of Town Creek, Alabama; two aunts, Brenda (James) Napier of Courtland, Alabama, Pearlie Scruggs of Huntsville, Alabama; five uncles, Billy Mason of Decatur, Alabama, Lee (Liz) Mason of Hartselle, Alabama, Richard (Wanda) Mason of Hillsboro, Alabama, Robert (Ann) Mason and Paul Mason both of Decatur, Alabama; three great aunts, Ella (Mose) Jones of Town Creek, Alabama, Linda (Charles) Hullett of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mattie Cooper of Louisville, Kentucky; five great uncles, George (Ruby) Robinson of Louisville, Kentucky, Robert (Mary) Robinson of Decatur, Alabama, Harry (Martha) Wilson of Los Angeles, California, Carl (Lela) Reid of Hillsboro, Alabama, Frank (Vanessa) Reed of Long Beach, California; a devoted great aunt, Minister Lela Reid; two devoted cousins, Tanesha Langham and Evett Jones of Madison, Alabama; a host of cousins and friends.
