Ollie Mae Surles was born November 23, 1925 to the late Robert Sr. and Ola Mae Taylor in Decatur, Alabama and departed here on Friday, April 20, 2018. She was the third of ten children of which six brothers and one sister are predeceased. She was raised and believed the auspicious precept of the Holy Trinity being God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Ollie relocated to Yonkers, New York in the 1950’s where she
worked hard in the industrial field. Later, she became a Foster Mother where she was instrumental in housing and raising numerous children and has left a positive lasting effect on the majority.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Joetta Bates, Gainesville, FL, Melissa and Alexis Surles, Yonkers, NY, Toni Riley, Newport, NC; one son, Eric Wright, Yonkers, NY; grandchildren, Charles and Jazmine Fitzpatrick, Tuskegee, AL, Briana Johnson and Tierra Surles, Mt. Vernon, NY; sisters Nellie Holyfield, and Bernice (Charlie) Bates, Decatur, AL and
a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ollie was a gem who was very loving and positive, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her favorite past times were bingo, playing cards and watching the New York Yankees. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten by all who knew her.
