Oakley Roger Byrd answered the Master's call on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. He was born on August 29, 1944 in Lawrence County to the late Rev. Jimmy Byrd Sr. and Mosela Hampton.
He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. He was educated in the Lawrence County School System and then later earned his Theological Degree from Samford University. He retired from Champion International Paper. He was an avid farmer along with many other trades. He was well known in his community.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maudie Harris Byrd; godson, James Burt Jr.; one brother, Jessie Byrd; and three sisters, Mae Racheal Mitchell, Helen Ashford and Jimmy Lee Thorne.
Left to cherish his memories are three sons, John Wayne Barrett, Tavirus Key and Pervis Key (Kayla) of Courtland, AL; one daughter, Phyllis Hampton (Roy) of Guntersville, AL; step mother, Hatti Mae Byrd of Town Creek, AL; devoted daughter-in-law, Sherry Burt (James-deceased); devoted grandchildren, Rodreece Burt and Breaunna Burt; five brothers, Kenny, Larry, Paul, Michael and Dexter Byrd of Town Creek, AL; three sisters, Anita Cooper, Wanda Little and Felicia Byrd of Town Creek, AL; a devoted niece, Brinda Lee (W.D.); special friends and neighbors, Dorothy Mitchell, Lesley Porter Sr., Henry T. Billings and many other friends; 12 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and acquaintances.
