Mr. Nathaniel "Doc" Smith was born May 31, 1929. He was the son of the late Rev. James Smith and Carrie Davis Smith. He departed this earthly life Sunday, January 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family to live with Jesus and loved ones who preceded him in death.

Nathaniel confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined fellowship with the Spring Creek Church. He later moved his membership to Little Star Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America where he was in the choir and served as a faithful member until his passing. He loved the Lord, his family, church family, neighbors and friends.

On September 29, 1951 Nathaniel Smith and Eva Mae Madden were united in Holy Matrimony. To this union of 65 years eight children were born. In a previous marriage two children were born.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. James Smith and a sister, Ida Mae Madden.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife; Eva Mae Madden Smith, mother; Carrie Davis Smith of Trinity, Alabama, sons; Nathaniel Smith (Joann) of Alexandria, Va, Harry Smith (Vera) of Decatur, Al, and Robert Smith (Dionna) of Hillsboro, Al. His daughters; Dorothy Woods of Twinsburg, Oh., Eunice Jones (Johnny) of Hartselle, Al., Willinetta Mason and Lilian Shackleford-Gholston (Hubert) of Hillsboro, Al., Cynthia M. Robinson (JC), Pearl Bevels (Alfonso) and Jeanetta Booker (Samuel) of Decatur, Al.; two adopted children: Julia Pointer of Hillsboro, Al. and Shameka Pointer of Atlanta, Ga.; 19 faithful grandchildren, four adopted grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. His sisters; Lillian White and Carrie Moore of Decatur, AL., Mary Allen (Frank) of Tuscumbia, AL., and brothers; George Smith and James Smith Jr. (Louise) of Trinity, AL. He also leaves behind a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousing and friends especially, Coy Kerby and Dale Payne. A special caring neighbor, Mother Winnie Sanford, a special thanks to his caregivers; Shirley Woods, Clara Smith and Hospice nurse; Kassidy.
