Donna M. Akins was born June 23, 1961 in Chicago, IL. She was the youngest child of the late James R. Walker and Ava M. (Walker) Jackson. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Lilydale Baptist Church in Chicago, IL, where she sang in the youth choir and was active in other youth ministries.

She graduated from Corliss High School and Chicago State University with a degree in Business Marketing. She met and married Anthony Akins and to this union one child was born. This union ended in divorce. She later met Arnell Gilliam and they had one child. She was employed at Chubb Insurance Company for more than 18 years. Then she relocated to Moulton, AL. Here she was employed at WEUP Radio Station for six years and ACASV (Alabama Coalition of Abuse) until her death.

She leave to cherish her memory a loving and devoted mother: Ava M. (Walker) Jackson; one daughter, Tiffany (O'Brien) Watkins, one son; Jordan Gilliam, one grandson; Jalen Watkins, one granddaughter; Kendall Watkins all of Moulton, AL, three sisters; Cassandra Walker, Moulton, AL, Debra Abernathy, Russellville, AL, Terri (Anton) Johnson, Chicago, IL, one step-sister; Kim (Clarence) Fields, Joliet, IL, three aunts; Jeanette (Larry) Kitchen, Trinity, AL, Paulette Brackins, Memphis, TN, Patricia (Charles) Burgess, Moulton, AL, five uncles; Billie (Josephine) Alexander, Grand Prairie, TX, Cardell (Judy) Alexander, West Warwickk, RI, Hyter Alexander, Panama, Billy Walker, Moulton, AL and Dennis (Bertha) Webb, Decatur, AL; a devoted friend; Gary Hubbard and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
